PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Photography has never been confined to the flatness of the printed image. From early experiments with photographic transfer, relief and photogrammetry to the expanded practices of the 1960s and 1970s, artists have repeatedly challenged the medium’s physical and sculptural boundaries. In contemporary practice, photography is increasingly approached not only as image, but also as object, surface and installation.

Led by Alix Marie, this three-day workshop explores expanded photography through the relationship between photographic and sculptural practice. Drawing on historical precedents, contemporary artistic practices and Marie’s own work, it considers how photographic images can take on physical and spatial forms.

Through hands-on experimentation, participants will work with a range of techniques and materials, developing sculptures and installations while exploring the materiality of the photographic image. Individual guidance, group discussion and feedback will support the development of ideas throughout the workshop.

PROGRAM COST

The workshop fee is €500 and includes participation in all three days of the program. Please note that travel and accommodation costs are not included.
